Sammanfattning

The roundtable brings together three of the authors and a former journal editor, from the recent JCMS 20th Anniversary SYmposium to discuss: What does the Arrival of Planetary Politics tell us about normative power and the European Union?
Ian Manners provides a reflection and prospective intervention on the development of normative power and thinking through the EU in the rest of the century.
Kalypso Nicolaïdis argues that the advent of planetary politics changes the conditions of possibility for the kind of democratic practices that can best deliver on our planetary-human eco-system found in the third democratic transformation from European to planetary politics through the normative power approach.
ROberta Guerrina (with Maxine David and Katharine Wright) argues for envisioning a nakedly normative feminist (re)imagination of planetary politics in the context of the normative power approach.
The discussant and former JCMS editor, Richard Whitman, provides a reflection on normative power and the EU in planetary politics in the context of the conference theme of an open EU through European integration and global challenges.
